Bring archery to JJHS/JHS
As parents of the inaugural Maddox Archery team, we are writing to petition for the implementation of an archery program at Jasper Junior High and Jasper High Schools, building on the existing youth archery program offered by the Parks and Recreation department. We believe that expanding this program into the school system would offer a unique and valuable opportunity for students to develop important skills while also providing a fun and engaging extracurricular activity.
The existing youth archery program offered by Parks and Rec has already demonstrated the many benefits of archery for students. It has provided a safe and supportive environment for students to learn and practice archery, and has helped them develop important skills such as patience, focus, and self-discipline. It has also promoted a sense of community among students, as they work together to support each other and build camaraderie.
Some impacts of archery from Coach Lindsey Stuart: HUGE increase in self-esteem/confidence. Most kids haven't even held a bow before. The shyest students have come out of their shells to meet new friends and shooting in front of huge groups of people is intimidating! Increased awareness on academic performance. Archers were responsible for maintaining their grades and coaches checked on performance in the classroom/attendance. Improved behavior Archers were aware of the fact that behavior throughout the school would be monitiored. There were several with MUCH improved classroom behavior due to this. A sense of community/belonging. Some of the archers have never "fit in" and really enjoyed being part of the team and experiencing having "their place" in the school.
We believe that integrating this program into the school system would allow even more students to benefit from it's value. We urge you to consider implementing this program so the current team members can continue with this sport after they leave Maddox.
Thank you for your consideration.
