Brewster Landing Coastal Resiliency and Habitat Restoration Project
As local residents, vacationers, and frequent visitors to Cape Cod Bay beaches, we submit this petition in unified and determined opposition to the proposed construction of a parking lot on park land gifted to be used only as a beach park (not a parking lot) to the Town of Brewster at Breakwater Landing by Dorothea Cist in 1955. (see attached letter from Dorothea Cist.
Reasons to eliminate the parking from the project include:
1) The land was donated to remain as a park.
2) The land is in the Historic District and the proposed project has not been approved by the Historic Commission.
3) The proposed parking encroaches the 100 foot wetlands buffer.
4) The land disturbance and retaining wall required to build the parking lot will be 35 feet from a neighboring house and 10 feet from the property line.
5) The existing number of parking spaces directly contribute to the overburdening of the beach and the abuse of the dunes.
6) The proposal does not promote sustainable green transportation alternatives.
7) The proposal does not address any of the concerns of the neighborhood residents, property owners, and abutters.
While we are in general support of the dune resiliency and habitat restoration components of the proposed project the undersigned will oppose the project if it includes a parking lot on the Cist donated land.
