The mandate has officially passed and insurance companies can no longer use breed bias to threaten families like mine. Seeing this change become law means I can finally stop worrying that my dog will cost us our home. We fought for this together and now thousands of pets get to …
This petition will be sent to the United States Congress and Senate.
Currently, a homeowner can be denied or lose their homeowner\'s insurance coverage due to the breed of dog they own. Certain breeds are listed as vicious, and the individual dog\'s record is not taken into account. This practice is referred to as breed bias. The result of breed bias is more dogs being placed in shelters because their owners are forced to choose between the insurance their mortgage requires or their pets.
We the undersigned ask that a law be passed making this form of discrimination illegal, as a dog\'s propensity to bite or attack is based on nurture rather than nature. Instead of being allowed to deny insurance based on dog breed, we ask that insurance companies only be allowed to deny further coverage if claims are made involving an attack by the individual dog.
Seeing this momentum grow reminds me of the nights I spent worrying about my own dog facing eviction from our home. It is incredible to know that so many others understand how unfair this bias truly is for our families.

Seeing one hundred people recognize that our dogs are family members instead of insurance liabilities is incredible. I started this because my own dog was unfairly targeted and I am grateful to have so many of you fighting this alongside me.

Its ridiculous that I might have to give up my rescue just because of my homeowners insurance. People are losing their best friends over this.

Insurance companies need to look at the individual dog instead of some outdated list. It is not fair to punish good owners.

Total BS. Breed has nothing to do with it. My rottie was the sweetest dog I ever owned. Fix this!
