This service is essential! Support when a baby is first born can make the difference whether or not the mother continues to breastfeed. This is the healthiest choice for infants and there is not enough support for new mothers.

I would consider a lactation consultant at any hospital providing birthing services an "essential service". The primary reason I delivered elsewhere for both of my births was because RVH did not have a lactation consultant. By not providing this service, RVH is setting up new mothers for failure when it comes to breast feeding when it is well known that "breast is best".
