Break the Library Institutional Reliance on Unpaid BIPOC Labor!

I support this petition and the work that OLA has done thus far fostering Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Antiracism (EDIA) in Oregon libraries. I hope the State Library of Oregon decides to move forward with organizational change.

I support the excellent idea of a paid EDIA staff consultant position at the State Library. I hope it would help both lift and acknowledge the burden of additional labor done every day by colleagues of color and underrepresented identities. I appreciate the thoughtful work that led to the conception and crafting of this petition.

I'm in favor of an "EDIA Consulting position" at SLO and elimination of "passion tax" burdens when resources can be made available. Hoping the paragraph 3 controversy will not hinder this worthy initiative, nor negative impact MRJ's chances or desire to be a competitive candidate.

Libraries are a great resource for the community and do a lot for the community. Thank you for those who go the extra mile! I hope my endorsement helps bring more attention to the work conditions.

Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, and people of color working at the Multnomah County Libraries deserve care, respect, and just treatment.

It's obvious that this is a need for the Oregon community and recognizing the amazing people who are working to lift everyone up is a no brainer.

I support creating an EDIA consulting position and thank Marci for all her EDIA work. She has become an expert and is a leader. She should be paid for her work in this field.

I fully support this and thank those who have worked so hard to make it happen. This is a welcome, if long overdue, step in the right direction. Let this paid position be the first of many.

We must pay anyone who labors. Librarians can lead the way.

As BIPOC staff who has, on occasion, taken on the additional labor of bringing up and educating about equity issues and seen other BIPOC do the same uncompensated I fully support this petition and the addition of a position at Or State Library.

What a week it's been since this petition was released. I have seen my colleagues speak up with dignity, passion, and power, and I have seen my colleagues fail to listen to those voices. The work ahead of us is humbling. Reparations to BIPOC colleagues who have done the unpaid labor of developing our anti-racist toolkits as well us the unpaid labor of dealing with white fragility, privilege, and racism should be immediate. After following the conversation on libs-or, I feel I now have the context I needed to support this petition. May it help manifest the change we so need.

Let's get this done!

If anything is ever going to get better in the library world, we need to fairly compensate and recognize our workers. SLO can set a good example by establishing a permanent EDIA position and staffing it with someone whose reputation for working with Oregon libraries to tackle complex issues is well established, and whose skills and talents have been proven time and time again.

Having a paid position will really advance EDIA in Oregon
