In my opinion, the assessment system currently in place is putting too much emphasis on output (i.e. Nature/Science publications) rather than properly assessing the skills of a researcher. Exceptional track record is not necessarily an indication of high skill. I would support an open discussion surrounding this issue and how better assessment methods can be implemented.

We want to do a good job, we try our best to prepare ourselves for the quest of research. But the actual system is full of mentality, bureaucratic and financial barriers that kill careers from the start. It is not always the best or the strongest who survives these obstacles

Having done research as a high school student, I definitely think it's important to have supports for younger researchers.
