In 2001, Victor Sobchak and Andy McQuade founded a theatre company at the Lion and Unicorn in Kentish Town. Over the years Victor, in particular, has supported young actors, new writers, up and coming directors and entertained many thousands of people with bold and original theatre. In June, 2008, George Sallis, an actor who Sobchak gave his first theatre break to, surreptitiously contacted the owners of the Lion and Unicorn and offered them large amounts of money to take over the theatre. The owners accepted. It was an offer Victor Sobchak wasn't able to match. We're fighting back. George Sallis has used legal threats, intimidation and money to steal a theatre that has become very precious to many people. This cannot be allowed. We the undersigned state that we will publicly boycott ALL of Giant Olive performances or any shows connected with George Sallis.Furthermore, we will advise all friends of theatre to do the same. We ask the owners of The Lion & Unicorn to consider the new offer made by Andy McQuade, George Georgiou and Shaban Arifi, that will allow independent and honest theatre to continue -and allow Victor Sobchak to continue directing at his beloved theatre.

The scale of this response confirms the impact that George Sallis has had on our community. I have scheduled a formal meeting with the venue owners to present our demand to restore independent management.

Hope he enjoys his stolen theatre. Won't be seeing a single show there ever again.

What a total snake move. Victor did so much for that place and to just have it bought out from under him is heartless.

Disgraceful behavior. Glad to see people standing up against this.

So sad to hear this. I loved the shows there. Boycotting for sure.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. GIVE THE THEATRE BACK TO THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE ART.

Never buying a ticket for anything connected to him. London theatre needs people like Victor not greedy guys with big wallets.
