Every year on Christmas Day, Mumma H would make lunch for the fam. A cold Christmas lunch. To make it worse she refused to make dinner so we then had to heat up the cold Christmas lunch to then have be able to eat something above 3°C for dinner.
Every year we complained that salad, cold chicken and ham was not cutting it anymore and demanded a hot Christmas lunch. Every year she told us to shut up and we continued to hate life on Christmas. The one day of the year you’re actually meant to not hate life. If anyone can make a poor family with no father hate Christmas, it was Mumma H.
Fast forward to 2019 and no one can believe what is happening in the kitchen. Mumma H is cooking lasagna.... In. The. Oven. For the first time in 38 years. At this point there was no need for presents, the fact that Mumma H was making a hot Christmas lunch was enough. I’m sure if Jesus wasn’t busy with birthday celebrations he would have come to witness the once in a lifetime event himself. Mums lasagna was the talk of the lunch, there’s no denying she loves a good compliment. She was lapping it up. It was like she waited 38 years just so she can have one day full of 38 years of built up praise.
Then that brings us to today. Christmas 2020. We can all agree that this year has been hard for everyone. Covid killed people, borders closed, the economy sinking, people not seeing their family... too scared to leave the house, hundreds of thousands without work. What could possibly be worse than all of that? You guess it. Mumma H is denying us a hot Christmas lunch. Why you ask? Because it’s not “Christmas food”.
All we need in the world right now is hope. Hope in the future, hope in ourselves, hope that Christmas will bring us together. But most importantly, Hope that Mumma H will give the people what they want. A hot Christmas lunch.
The stories shared by others regarding their own holiday traditions have confirmed that the frustration I experienced is far more common than I initially imagined. I am currently organizing these testimonies to present a coherent argument for the necessity of a warm meal. Further developments regarding our strategy for this year will be provided shortly.

Lasagna sounds way better than dry ham. Mumma H needs to keep the oven on this time.
