Kevin Blackistone insulted every American on Around the Horn when he called the Nation Anthem a "War Anthem" and stating that we should separate ourselves from the military. This was in response to a question about Northwestern Universities American Flag themed uniforms. Their uniforms are meant to honor veterans and Mr.Blackistone not only decided to dishonor veterans he dishonored our country. By signing this petition you are agreeing that we will no longer stand for dishonor of our country and our military who give their lives so the Mr.Blackistone doesn't have to. Until ESPN terminated Mr. Blackistone or he apologizes for his unacceptable behavior I will boycott ESPN. His remarks are below.
Blackistone:
I'm going to sell it for the same reasons. If you sell this along with me, you should also be selling the rest of the military symbolism embrace of sports. Whether it’s the singing of a war anthem to open every game. Whether it’s going to get a hotdog and being able to sign up for the Army at the same time. Whether it’s the NFL's embrace of the mythology of the Pat Tillman story. It has been going on in sports since the first National Anthem was played in the World Series back in 1917. And it’s time for people to back away.
Reali: There is a difference between calling a football game a “battle,” right, and singing the National Anthem before a game.
Blackistone: You are conflating a war anthem with a simple game. When you have military flyovers and the military symbolism that goes on in sports, I think you’ve got a problem.
The momentum behind this boycott has reached a point where it is difficult to ignore. My fatigue is heavy but seeing this level of agreement confirms that we are staying the course until there is actual accountability.
