Body cameras are necessary. They keep police officers safe from false accusations and the people of our county safe from unnecessary force. Please please please spend the money for the police department in our county to have and require them to use body cameras.

This only works if the cameras stay on. This is for the public safety so that they don't have to fear the cops won't be held accountable for their mistakes. And this is for the sake of the cops so that they can think twice and not make the mistakes that put the public's trust in them in jeopardy.

As an Anne Arundel County resident, it is highly concerning to me that our police department is not equipped with body cameras, something that is a standard practice in several other states in this country and is one of the most basic measures that needs to be taken towards lowering instances of police brutality. Maryland has the 8th highest rate of unarmed black people facing police brutality of all states in this country, and the fact that many counties do not have body cameras is likely a large driving factor of this.
