delete Anyone who knows Dr. Zucker and is familiar with his scholarly research knows that he is highly sympathetic to and respectful of the gender identities of adults and supportive of their need to transition. The permanence and importance of adult gender identity does not, based on all available evidence, imply that children's ways of thinking and feeling about their gender are similarly immutable. It is very possible to simultaneously celebrate and support the diversity of adult gender expression while at the same time try to figure out whether it is possible to react to gender-atypical children in a way that makes the need for sexual reassignment surgery in adulthood less likely. That is not the same thing as forcing children into a gender straightjacket, it is consistent with gender diversity and respectful of the eventual need for some to seek reassignment surgery.

Dr. Zucker is the international expert of choice in which those involved in gender identity research in The Netherlands place great trust. The ignorance of the people who are responsible for this damage to his reputation is staggering.

Given the dearth of good research and treatment centers dealing with these sexual issues, it's sad that one of the best might be eliminated.
