I thought the government/local government had to regulate monopolies to protect the interests of consumers?

Do we live in the UK or some corrupt western block country. Just simply unbelievable, will fly from Int from now on. Not playing the monopoly and backhand system!

I thought monopolies were illegal?

Absolutely ludicrous that we have no other means of car parking options in this day and age. Someone is getting filthy rich out there while we are getting ripped off with parking charges. It stinks of corruption.

Use this parking facility every time. Disgraceful for northern Ireland not to show support for small businesses

To refuse planning permission and assert 'no need' for the Boal car park on its existing car park site, flies in the face of reason and creates a monopoly. Boal Car Park is much better value than its competition: low cost, user friendly, secure and provides a v good service. BHD has 'form': it closed its terminal bus service, while putting up charges, in earlier years. If this decision stands,BHD will add to its existing, poorly serviced site and raise charges to pay for it. For that, it needs a monopoly.

When BHD had an earlier monoply they ran down, then closed the terminal bus service. Now they say the long term car park, (their most distant), is just 10 minutes walk from the terminal. So, we must get on with it, regardless of disability, the difficulties for the infirm/elderly, the awkward baggage, the pram and the excited kids. By contrast, Boal delivers you to the nearest setting down point and unloads your baggage, etc., with a smile. As for parking costs, 10 days parking at BHD costs £84; LHR, Terminal 2, £85.70; MAN, £89.99 and Boal, £37. LHR and MAN provide a bus service to their terminals, too. What will be the traffic implications of diverting former Boal customer traffic back onto the Sydenham by-pass? How can the planners, city councilors and the minister sanction a monopoly and assert that there is 'no need' for a second, low cost car park, which has been in business for 4 years years, already? Whose interest is being served? Not the voters and their dependents, for sure.

Why should Belfast City Airport be allowed to charge very high prices to their customers with no competition.

So...permission to operate Boal's car park was given (even though it already is a car park...). Then it was taken away...and surprise surprise someone on the councill apparently admitted to being lobbied by the airport to reverse the decision. So...should we the public be lobbying our local MP's to look into this alleged corruption not to mention unfair competition and monopoly? Under the Freedom of Information Act, can we find out how many of our hospitals and other public car parks which went from free parking to charging have got permission to do so? We can park at Dublin airport for 12 days for less than the price of one day at City Airport! This whole thing stinks of greed, corruption and friends in high places. They have already worked a move with the taxi service at the airport. They need to be exposed.

Can't get a job here, now you can't park here unless you pay city airport prices. No thanks it's cheaper to get a taxi! Save boals
