Brooklyn Music School Faculty & Staff request to Board of Directors

MAKE BMS NOT TOXIC AGAIN!!!!!

JUST GET HIM OUT PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Toxic and predatory behavior has no place in our society, much less in an educational institution focused on children. It reflects extremely poorly on the school and its board that someone who has behaved in such a way has been retained in a leadership role--chairing the board or serving on the board in any capacity. Why would you allow this? No amount of money and influence, if this is indeed the reason, is worth the stain this brings upon the institution of BMS. As an educator and BMS parent, I'm appalled.

This man's personal conduct is reprehensible. That he has a position on the board whose responsibility it is to oversee the teaching of CHILDREN music is at odds with the modeling those at BMS wish to present to their students. Kick him to the curb.

The BMS faculty, parents, and broader Brooklyn community have been unequivocal in their position. Crocker Coulson’s actions both professionally and personally are at odds with the mission and value of the school. He must be removed from any and all associations he has with BMS immediately. Is there no code of conduct our board members are to be held accountable against?

As a parent I am in full support of the faculty's petition. As parents we have entrusted BMS with the musical education of our children. We expect that the school upholds the highest standards of ethics and responsibility. Having this person represent the school in any capacity is unacceptable.

We must be exemplary, in positive and productive ways, within our community. We must continue to build trust of, and respect for each other. If our top leadership doesn't exemplify those values then those values may not be upheld by others in the community.

The BMS board, faculty, and student/parent community are all equally vital components of this wonderful institution. Going forward, it is imperative for the continued growth and healthy function of the school that the former pursue a more symbiotic relationship with the latter two.

An institution like the Brooklyn Music School should be represented board members with ethics and moral integrity of which Mr. Coulson has none.

I support the faculty and staff. The board needs to be transparent with the community.

I have been teaching at Brooklyn Music School for 18 years now. Most of my feelings are expressed in the letter and comments made above, but I would like to amplify a few points already made. Mr. Coulson's representation of where the school is and what it needs are not accurate and often align more with his own agenda than that of the students, parents, and faculty of BMS. I've been frustrated by the disconnect between the board and the actual needs of the school at other times but never so much as now. Thank you for your attention.

HIS GOALS ARE NOT THE CORRECT ONES FOR BMS... THEY ARE SELF SERVING. AN OLD SAYING , “IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW A MAN WILL TREAT YOU IN BUSINESS, WATCH HOW HE TREATS HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN.!!!” HE HAS NO MORAL COMPASS OR INTEGRITY. COULD HE BE TAKING LESSONS FROM TRUMP???

I agree with this assessment. Even after Mr. Coulson's... stepping down as chair of the trustees, he has maintained the position he is in charge. Demonstrated by calling the finance office the morning after, what was thought to be a final conference call to prepare a presentational budget, with demands for changes to what had been agreed on. In the opinion of the finance manager, the proposed goals changes are unreachable, under his current proposed staffing of the Fundraising and Development department.

For clarification Ann, Mr. Coulson was not only accused of a crime, he was found guilty by a Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge.

Those accused of a crime do not belong on the board of an educational institution.

I/we would like to see the BMS board work closely with the faculty and staff to continue building this vibrant cultural community for the future. The recent board leadership and our current relationship with the board has not allowed this to happen.

We are asking for the board to establish a culture of transparency, oversight, and accountability. We wish to work with the board more closely for the common goal of the advancement of the Brooklyn Music School and it's mission.
