Having 2 daughters, who swam for BWSD 2006 – 2016, and most recently being a captain’s parent, our family has a long history with DHS's girl’s swim/dive team. The swim and dive teams have always operated functionally as separate groups; each with separate locations and training priorities. I think the overlap in authority between the 2 coaches has in fact contributed to mixed messages and unnecessary confusion. I think it would benefit the team to formally recognize these facts and allow each coach to manage each sport according to their expertise. This action would simply be a formal recognition of a separation that already exists. Therefore, it will not change or dilute the common purpose of both teams, which is to bring their requisite strengths to the pool deck in a common goal and purpose.
The proposal makes perfect sense/ the divers are coached by a diving coach in one site while the swimmers by the swim coach at another- why not separate?

The swimmers and divers have always had different needs. I think this will allow them to equally thrive.

The divers have always practiced in different locations. The sports are very different and have very different needs. I think the Darien coaches are wise and know what would be best for their athletes. I have no idea what it is that they want but I hope that both the swimmers and the divers needs can be better met...and let's build a pool? LOL

These are 2 separate sports and accordingly the same standard needs to be applied to Swimming and Diving.

These are 2 separate sports with nothing in Common other than that they are both done in a pool. Just as Football, Soccer, and Field Hockey (Fall Sports) have a "Field" in common, they are treated rightfully as separate teams and accordingly the same standard needs to be applied to Swimming and Diving.

Seems to me that the divers and swimmers practice in a different towns and logically should be under their own coach.

I know these coaches won't return unless we get this done. Let's hold the rope for Marj!

Parents do not run athletic programs. Coaches and Athletic Directors do.
It’s also time to budget for a pool for DHS at Town Hall. The current pool is from 1953, 64 years ago. It is not in compliance with safety regulations for diving. The 2005 bonds have been paid down, and there is plenty of debt capacity.
