Parents spent months asking for the Blount County School Board Meeting to be changed to a later time to allow working parents to attend the meeting. New board member Erica Moore requested that the time be pushed back 30 minutes, and it was changed to 5:30. After going with the new start time for two meetings; the board reverted back to 5:00 for the last meeting. Central Office staff can go home and return for the meeting or stay. The schedule should be driven by the needs of working parents.

A lot more parents these days want to be involved in their children's education. Meeting times should be compatible with parents schedules. 5:00 is unreasonable and it almost looks as if you're trying to prevent parents from attending.

It would be very helpful for school board meetings to be held at a time that a larger number of parents would be able to attend. It would also be helpful if meeting reminders were sent out to families in the way that sports, activities, and events are. We need to increase the parent participation in our school district to ensure that our children receive a quality education that is supported both at home and at school.

The meeting times are not for parents they want them to not show up. I do believe that is the intent.
6:30 is a wonderful and realistic time for attendance. Let the board be inconvenienced, this is about the students and parents not the board.

It makes no sense to schedule monthly meetings during working hours, unless the sole purpose is to discourage parents from participating in the process concerning their children's education. They should be moved to 6:30 or 7:00. Meetings should be scheduled with parents in mind... not the convenience of the Board members.
