When the lot of land was purchased where the blankie boutique resides, it was in a MRC district (mixed Residential) of Towamencin Township with a usage code of 4100 given by Montgomery County that states a retail space is an allowed usage. Accordinf ro the zoning codes, a plot of land should inherit the usage at time of purchase. The house/building that was constructed on this land was built so a small store could be opened. All surrounding houses/buildings on this street have businesses attached as well. So 2 years ago when we began to transform the retail section into the blankie boutique, the township took away our right to have a business here and forbade us from filing the necessary permits to open one. They began to make up their own rules which contradict their own code book, lie, and make us jump through hoops. They told us we could pay $2,000 for a variance that would surely be denied. They even went as far to say the only "home office" we could have is if for example i was an authorwho used a room in my house to write a book. And this is only after i got a permit for that. Why would i get a permit to do something i could do in a starbucks? I have attempted to make my business strictly online but thats not my dream for my business. I am a stay at home mom who provides an outlet for other moms to use their talents to make money too. We sell beautiful handmade clothing and accessories. Our products help pay for dance lessons and put dinner on the table. Why would the township not want to improve their town and economy with such a unique honest business like this? Instead they continue to give permits to bar owners where drugs are sold, or to open up big corporate businesses like Lowes and Wawa. Soon all the small businesses will be gone if we dont put an end to the unfair way we are treated! We built this house always with intentions of running a business and were told before we bought it that we were allowed. Now the house can not even be sold for what is owed on it. Please support local small business and help me and my family by signing this petition to rezone our property!
