By what undemocratic process does the State of Virginia decide to alter our neighborhood, the neighborhood in which we have chose to pay our taxes, decide without notice to alter the fabric of our community? The V-Dot officials who decided this course of action should be reprimanded at minimum or removed from office.

Thanks to everyone who transformed this small circle from a bland and infrequently maintained eyesore into a beautiful community gardening project. Affectionately called "the orchard", the gardening project brought together neighbors of all ages. Having moved into the neighborhood less than a year ago, I meet many wonderful people while learning more about organic gardening. We appeal to VDOT -- please do not cut down the donated fruit trees. I join my neighbors in wanting to adopt the circle and maintain a flower, fruit and vegetable garden. VDOT, we hope you will support our "fruitful" endeavor to maintain the garden.

I've lived in the neighborhood for nearly 20 years, and have loved participating in the community orchard project the last 3 years. We cleaned up the circle (must have picked up a bushel of glass shards while preparing the ground for planting), and found good neighbors. The fig and pomegranate trees survived the last few winters, amazingly. The peach blossoms were so lovely this spring. Let's hope they bloom for many springs to come!

The garden has been a very positive community endeavor. We've worked together to transform this unused and untended real estate into something productive. It seemed to me a win, win enterprise.

It's so cool to go up to the tree, pick a piece of fruit and eat it on the spot. Our nearly 2-year-old dug into an asian pear and wouldn't let it go!
