Too many birders us abbreviated bird names or 'esoteric' nicknames such as "Sprosser", "Icky", "Melody" and so on, to try and sound cool. It's not big and it's not clever. Therefore anybody using these names should be fined, birched or imprisoned. Or all three.

I am honestly stunned that so many of you share this frustration with me. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who were willing to call out these ridiculous nicknames in the first place.

it is just lazy english. call a bird what it is and stop making up weird nicknames.
