For years now, the Detroit Pistons have struggled to find stability at the head coaching position. Since reaching the nba finals in 2005 with Larry Brown as coach, the team has continually failed to meet up to its expected potential. Under Flip Saunders the team was a perennial championship contender but failed to even reach the finals, resulting in his firing. His offensive philosophies created higher scoring and regular season wins but came up short in the playoffs. His years changed the identity of this proud blue collar team in an effort to appease a league that was clamouring for high scores and superstars. The team went away from what has made it successful through the years, defense. GM Joe Dumars has tried to return to this philosophy with a series of underwhelming coach hires. Each one supposedly bringing the characteristics needed to get the team back on track. Each on subsequently failing.
