We, the Armenian Community, petition the City of Burbank to assign a Bilingual (Armenian) Housing Services Assistant, in the Burbank Housing Authority section 8 program. There are insufficient resources including an Armenian language speaker Assistant for most non-English speaking residents. Unfortunately, wrongful letters with untrue statements are sent out by BHA to families, which create hardship for the elderly when it comes to fighting for their rights. Due to lack of Armenian language assistance, and some English translation/grammatical errors on the forms, some fully qualified, low income and disabled elderly cases are denied, unfairly. This costs section 8 disabled applicants a great deal of stress and a violation of their rights because of linguistic discrimination.
