Unsafe for parents and children being dropped off at the local daycare. Were businesses and residents notified before this decision was made????

This is absolutely ridiculous. The alderman picked random city bikers over the safety of families & children.

Construction of the bike lane was disruptive and not well communicated with impacted businesses, including the daycare where my child is enrolled. Parents were consistently inconvenienced without much notice during drop off and pick up. Additionally, the bike lane is a safety hazard for parents dropping off their children at the day care having to open the driver side door in the front and back row directly into heavy traffic. The bike lane should have been placed between the parking/drop off lane and traffic. The safety of young children should certainly be more important than that of adult bikers. As it stands parents would rather violate the bike lane to ensure their children’s safety than park in the designated area.

Hello. After the recent road improvements on 31st between MLK and Prairie, the parking area in front of Living The Language Daycare where my child attends has been much more narrow and dangerous. In order to avoid the bike lane, the driver side is in the middle of the street presenting a major threat to the safety of the driver, other cars, as well as bikers. Please consider eliminating the bike lane on this stretch of road or moving the bike lane to the street side.

While I am happy to see the city taking measures to protect cyclists, directly in front of a daycare is not a place for a protected bike line. This absurd measure places young children at risk. The protected bike line should be replaced by against-the-curb parking and a bike line on the street side.

Let’s rectify this before it’s too late and an innocent child gets hurt.

Hello, I have 2 kids 2 and under who attend this daycare. I will have to carry them both several blocks which is unsafe near such a busy street. This goes not only for me but the other kids in the daycare.
