Isupport more inclusive language on the controversial issue
of abortion in the Democratic Platform.
The Democratic Platform currently contains language to allow taxpayer funding of abortion. National polls have consistently demonstrated that most Americans do not support the government paying for abortion. In fact, a February 2012 Quinnipiac University poll (national sample of 2,605 registered voters, margin of error ±1.9 percentage points) found that nearly thirty percent of Americans would not vote for a candidate with whom they disagreed on abortion but agreed on other issues. The Democratic Platform language should be inclusive and endorse the views of all Democrats.
I support the following language for the 2012 Democratic Platform:
"We respect the conscience of each American and recognize that members of our Party have deeply held and sometimes differing positions on issues of personal conscience, like abortion and the death penalty. We recognize the diversity of views as a source of strength and we welcome into our ranks all Americans who may hold differing positions on these and other issues.
However, we can find common ground. We believe that we can reduce the number of abortions because we are united in our support for policies that assist families who find themselves in crisis or unplanned pregnancies. We believe that women deserve to have a breadth ofoptions available as they face pregnancy: including, among others, support and resources needed to handle the challenges of pregnancy, adoption, and parenthood; access to education, healthcare, childcare; and appropriate child support. We envision a new day without financial or societal barriers to bringing a planned or unplanned pregnancy to term."

Big tent means everyone. If we claim to be for equality we should start by respecting those of us who believe life begins at conception.

FINALLY someone is saying this out loud. I have been waiting years for the leadership to acknowledge that we don't all agree on this.
The party needs to realize that pro-life Democrats exist. We are tired of being pushed out and ignored for having a conscience.
Democrats should be defending the smallest and weakest Americans--the unborn.
The Democratic Party is losing thousands, or even millions, of voters who will not vote for a candidate who presents abortion, even partial birth and third trimester abortion for any reason, as a "women's health issue." That language needs to change. , NO pro-choice Democrat is going to vote Republican just because the Democratic Party began to use more inclusive language and include Democrats for Life in their platform. But the reverse is true: not changing the language, not including Democrats for Life will GUARANTEE that many citizens vote Republican, no matter who is running, no matter how offensive and hypocritical the Republican candidate is. If the DemocratsiC Party will not see the light on this issue and be more inclusive, then you are giving away this election and sentencing this country to a very grim future. As much as the Republicans are guilty for creating a perfect breeding ground for the hatred that is permeating Trump's campaign, the Democrats' refusal to give Democrats for Life a very visible place in their campaign has pushed many people to the Republican Party. You are out of touch and you will lose the election if you don't change. That would be tragic for the United States and for the world.
Amen! Finally some language I can get behind as a pro life Democrat.

I am among those active Democrats who will not support nor vote for candidates who restrict the rights of young women with unplanned pregnancies to abortion, do not support any other choice, do not insist on the highest medical standards for sanitation and appropriate medically qualified personnel at abortion centers and do not support informed choice including patient viewing of an ultrasound.
