I am starting this petition on behalf of a lady that used to live down the block from my family when I was growing up . She was always the nicest and sweetest lady I know and then she had unimaginable tragedy and without putting too much details of her personal life on the internet , I can say that she lost most of her family in a tragic accident . This caused a domino effect of losing most everything else . As a widow she lost her home , her health and even her car. We lost touch with her and finally got word that she was homeless. She eventually was hospitalized when they found her unconscious and near death. She spent a month in the hospital and finally was released . Her church would no longer take no for an answer and made her take help and she has been staying with a family from her church. She is an older lady who is has a very difficult time.walking due to an injury. To spite all these set backs she has never gave up ..it really is amazing. She was determined not to get any type of government assistance or even accept financial help. She has a clear goal of what she thinks she is able to accomplish to be fully independent. She just wanted to save some money and buy herself a little RV that she could afford for herself and her little dog and settle in. Without a vehicle and bad health employment was difficult so she started selling things on line mostly through eBay and was beginning to save some money . My parents said every Sunday at church she looked more and more alive . ....now here is where the actual petition begins . She needed a place to keep her inventory at that was close to where she stays because she does not have a car so everything needs to be within walking distance so she can walk up there pack up her orders and then walk to get them shipped off. She had rented a unit from Sparebox Storage Facility . She had rented the unit for about a year . She then needed to move up to a larger unit so she did.that on line . With Sparebox you have to do it online because they do not have people on site at their facilities . So.she paid for the bigger unit and got her stuff moved down.the hall to a larger unit which was difficult enough . She was I that unit for over four months without incident . Then two weeks ago on Monday , her pastor and his wife took her up to her unit to get some things she needed for the next day . When they got there she immediately noticed that her lock was missing and when they opened the unit it had been ransacked and at least 90% of her inventory is missing . They called the police and made a report and she was devasted and defeated and went home . The next day she goes up there to sift through the mess and see what was left. The night before they had noticed that there were some boxes and things that were stacked up in a way that they felt like the people had wanted to come back and get them .. she was only there for a few minutes when 2 employs show up and inform.her that her unit had been "cleaned out " by employees because that particular unit was not assigned to anyone. The police were.called out again and it's figured out that indeed she did have a unit there and she was completely paid up , the problem was that Sparebox.had her in a unit just a few doors down and her things were in a sperate unit. We can only assume that the mix up came from when she ordered the unit.on line because the unit my number they gave her when she made the reservation was different than the one they gave her when she paid . So for over 4 months the unit she was in was listed as empty but they also knew that no one was in the unit they assigned her to was actually empty but never once called her to find out why she was paying on a unit that she was not using ,.even after they made that unit available for rent . The 2.employees.told her her things would not be returned to her and the police told her that under the circumstances that it was now a civil case and there was nothing else that they could . With the police there , she was informed that her remaining things would be ok where they were and she went home to call the their customer service line . The person she spoke(call center ) told her that they would escalate her complaint to the next level and she would be hearing from someone quickly . You are not able to speak to anyone in the same town as their facilities and all calls even to the local number are routed to the out of country call center . Later that evening her pastor and his wife.drive her over again to finally take stock of the damage and loss. When they get there the.company lock.was still on the door but when they opened it up again someone had been in there and taking the few remaining things except this time just about four.of the items that had been removed the day before had been returned . Just four very random items were put in the place of the things that had been conviently stacked up to take later. Luckily her pastors wife had taken photos of both times . Again just feeling overly defeated , she immediately went and called the customer service number and them about what had happened and how thier employees had very clearly been back in her unit and had taken things . They told her they would take note and again someone would be in touch with her and the case was being escalated to someone that could address her concerns . She told them she wanted to speak to someone above them and was told there was no such person . She got on line and looked up any kind of email or phone number for someone at the cooperate level and there is literally zero information like that available on line . Not an email or a single phone number other than the ones that send you right back to the call center . Everytime she emailed she just received a response that someone would be in touch . So after this going on for almost two days now she calls the call center again and this time they told her that her case had been closed because her lease had been terminated and she had 48 hrs to remove.her belongings and that she could no longer rent a unit.from them. This was very clearly a retaliation from her complaints . She does not own a car and had nowhere to move her few remaining things to and not enough time to find a truck to move it . Plus there was nowhere else within walking distance. Another lady at her church.had a unit at the same place and told her that she could put some things in her unit until she figured something out. She loaded her things on a little cart and spent hours moving things to another unit . After getting things moved over there , she has felt lost. All of her inventory is gone , she can't get any response from the company and has had her lease terminated.and she now.has.no.income.. She can't afford.to.file.a case in small claims court and doubt that she could win a fight against a large cooperations anyway . So she removes all the lost inventory from her eBay store and goes from having over a thousand items listed down to around 70 items listed. She is still just going to do the best with what little she had..She is putting on a brave face but you can tell how defeated she is. She goes on social media.and.complains about Sparebox. She leaves horrible google reviews sharing her story but of course gets no response from Sparebox. However , this week as she goes up there to grab a couple of items upon leaving she is met by police and the same employee . The police are very nice and sympathetic but say that the cooperate office has decided to trespass her from the all of their properties . Which is a double blow because aside from renting a unit from them she also buys a unit from them every single month at auction so now that will be denied to her as well which only limits her income not only now but in the future as well since that is how she sources the majority of her income . Again this is very clearly in retaliation for her complaining on social media and telling the first name of the employee that had taken her belongings in the first place . Sparebox as a cooperation is bullying and abusing this woman simply because of a clerical error and her complaints. The only thing that she has.ever asked from them from the very beginning was to have her things returned. They were very obviously not thrown out because the employees tore through the place and took the items they wanted and then made a second trip to get the rest of what they wanted . Since she has literally not be able to speak to a single person.that works for Sparebox other than the one employee the first day she has no idea what their explanation is for the way that she has been treated . Several people have made multiple attempts to reach out to Sparebox and have hit the same brick wall so what we are asking from this petition is that Sparebox immediately put a stop to this harassment and to give her an explanation of why her things were not returned and even more importantly why their employees were allowed back into her unit a second time to get more things even after she was told her unit would be secured and why exactly her lease was terminated. Upon research you can easily find story after story after story of the shady practices of Sparebox. We hope that with enough signatures across all the states , especially the ones that have Sparebox facilities in them , that they will have to make things right for this elderly widow. With enough signatures saying that people will not use their facilities.unil they make the situation right , then maybe they can be made to do the right thing . It is actually owned by an investment group like so many other things now in this country so maybe a hit to thier wallet will do the trick. Please sign and share this petition.with as many people as possible . If cooperations are allowed to beat down the little guy then they will never stop and the next person could be you or someone you love. At the very least .we need to send a message that this ladies voice is being heard, that she matters and that people are aware of their business practices . Thank you so much for listening and please please please sign and share .
