We believe that due to being enrolled in a senior class, all students -no matter their graduation class (freshman, sophomore, junior)- should be exempt from the end of the year exam, of course with the current requirements still standing, just as the seniors are. We work just as hard as the seniors throughout the year and should receive the same benefits. Most of these classes have AP tests as well, making the need for a final pointlessly exhausting for students and teachers who did their jobs.
I have been reading the comments from those of you who are juggling these heavy workloads and I am truly humbled by your dedication. It is clear that this is a conversation we need to keep having with the administration because you all deserve to have your hard work recognized. I never imagined this would reach so many of you but the credit belongs entirely to the students who spoke up.

I have friends that are finishing up their high school years. They are busy with STAAR, weekly tests, and stress of finding a job to support their future lives. Don't make them do more than they have to.

We are not asking for the elimination of all finals, simply these specific ones. Our grade in the class should constitute our basic knowledge and understanding of the course. The majority of us are faced with STAAR exams and AP exams on top of our finals in other classes, limiting our ability to succeed on this final. If we do not succeed, it reflects poorly on not only us, but on our teacher and our school, creating the idea that we were inadequately prepared, when in fact, we were simply too stressed to perform to the best of our ability. We take the same exact course as the seniors do; therefore it is unfair to exempt the seniors from the exam, but not the underclassmen.

This is not an unreasonable request, especially for the harder classes. If this was asking to exempt every student from finals then it may be pushing it. If we meet all of the requirements the seniors do, then there is no good reason to make us take the final.

We take too many tests as it is. These tests do nothing but make keeping high grades more difficult.
