Better Plan to Avoid Three-week Closing of Sea Island Road

Incorporate St SIMONS please someone with common sense and care run for commissioner in the meantime

I see our County Administrator along with the JWSC found a way to demonstrate that they too could make a stupid decision. This is a barrier island- realistically, if you live North or East of Demere there is only two ways off and on the island and they are going to take away one of the options. Do they really think the public cares if the project takes more time at the expense of serious traffic backup. And what about our children- the school busses now make two round trips for middle school and high school students. This will destroy their schedules. Kudos to the decision-makers for their lack of planning and some really poor decision makers. Having watched this project for the last few months I am sure they could cut the time down by merely ensuring everyone was working instead if watching others work. This one takes the cake.

Please do This at night!!!

This closure plan is absurd. Is there a reason why they can't do nighttime closures only and do the work overnight? Also, it seems the neighborhoods being served by this new project are the only ones who will not be inconvenienced by this mess. They still would be served by Sea Island Road under the two-week closure plan while everyone else suffers.

I moved out of NY city to avoid traffic on the way to work. Find another option.

Closing Sea Island Road is unacceptable. According to Alan Ours, "the public will have to find another way through". Another way through means Frederica Road, around the traffic circle and down Demere Road. In addition to the previously mentioned buses, delivery trucks, construction and landscaping vehicles, trash trucks, and mail, the resulting gridlock will effectively prevent emergency vehicles and fire trucks from getting to people who live on St. Simons Island. Citizens who live on the north end of the Island, including Marsh's Edge, will have no way to be quickly transported to hospital in case of emergency, which could cost someone their life. Compromising public safety for the sake of the convenience of the JWSC is and a group of developers is unforgivable. Work on the sewer system can be done at night and covered up during the day to provide uninterrupted access.

I live behind St Williams on Frederica, and work at Shops at Sea Island. It takes me 5 minutes to get to work. How long will it take me when you shut down Sea Isalnd road and all that traffic is on Frederica? Is it really necessary to shut it down completely? Reason being?

Surely you can reduce the 3 week period. A flagman for all but a few days would be better than a full 3 weeks of no traffic at all. Gridlock on Demere will be atrocious otherwise.

This plan will create a travesty for Island residents.

Close a main artery on the island for nearly a month? And the residents will just "Have to find another route"? How does that work? We are talking about school buses, delivery trucks, mail, maintenance and landscape trucks and trailers, garbage trucks, etc. Not just residents. What about work done at night? What about closing one lane/one section at a time?

This is not OK.

"Find another route"? A ridiculous statement for a supposed manger to make. It's about time we took a hard look at the Commissioners and planners who seem to put the interests of developers before the interests of S.S.I. Residents.
