I think it's disgusting that they can charge what they want and don't bother doing the rent. I had a friend who improved the property because she thought she was there for s while then he said he was selling . I know he is entitled to do that but then he said he had another property she could rent so she thought ok good and she improved that property then again he said he was selling. He was waiting for her to improve these properties so he could get the best profit when selling them . He was not only getting the high rent he was charging. But she paid for the improvement of the property.

wandsworth could do much to address the income inequality in housing. The inequalify ranges from the mentioned on the cusp of being homeless, paying most of their earnings and UC on rent, to those who collect properties as trophies in and around nine elms and wandsworth riverside. Although major policies to address this inequality comes from the government, WBC could allow landlords to let on the condition that they provide certain standards of size,repair and rent at 1/3 the tenant’s earnings. Other councils could follow suit. They could also tax the mentioned empty flats and use the momey for resources to help enforce the new bylaws and for discretionary housing benefit.
It's time everyone had an affordable and secure home.

We had open ended tenancies and rent control until the 1980's and they should definitely return. A properly resourced landlord licensing scheme would go a long way towards eliminating bad standards.

Being evicted at two month's notice is not a trivial matter when you have a busy job and securing alternative accomodation is a complex and time-consuming task. Renter's rights in UK should be equivalent to those in France or Germany
