As someone who only caught the tail end of this leaving high school, I do not understand all of the struggles involved at the lower level. However, I am aware that this system is crippling to students and severely hinders a student's ability to be successful as they progress through life.

The system that was in place worked for decades. Leave it alone.

Listening to the teachers explain the grading system during open house, "well 4's are very hard to obtain. The child must come in a nd shkw that she has the knowledge before its taught to the class.". When I was a student we were taught the subject, studied the subject, and were tested in the subject. At which point we were then graded. This new system is ridiculous.

My daughter is striving to do her best for all 4's. Liberty has tried to explain the grading the best of there knowledge however when they aren't informed like they should be we as parents and even students aren't either. The verbal information behind the number grades are more confusing to the students in which they can not understand where they need to improve the work. Thank you parent of Liberty middle school

SBG is not working at BBCHS. It will not work at BESD 53.

This standard based grading system is not good for our children! What good is a 4 if you are telling them you probably won't get them? Go back to ABC's my child missed 1 on on a quiz and received a 2! How do you except parents to truly know where there kids are at?

As a parent and an educator, I am very concerned and confused with and about this standard based reporting. I feel that the facts aren't straight. There are too many loop holes, too many unanswered questions that have been skated around because the district is unsure if the answers. The report cards themselves were not very defined as to what those grades meant. Most parents are not able to interpret what a standard means. The kids have been to get a 4, that means they should be teaching the class. Kids fear this system and feel that a 4 is unattainable. Again too many questions and concerns that need to be answered. Also this system is being looked at by other districts to soon be used. The Bourbonnais school district has always been looked at with high regards, this standards based reporting is tearing all that down.

How can parents understand when the teachers don't understand SBG.
