The city council finally passed the safe storage ordinance tonight. It has been a long and exhausting road to get here but I am relieved that our community chose to prioritize child safety. We have to keep watching to ensure these requirements are actually followed.

Final supporters
Approximately 1.7 million children live in homes with guns that are both unsecured and loaded. This drastically increases the chance of unintentional child shootings. In 2017, there were 285 reported unintentional child gun deaths and injuries.
Our student organization, Berkeley High Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, is proposing a gun safety ordinance to the City of Berkeley that would require gun owners to keep their guns stored securely in a gun safe or with the use of a trigger lock.
Please sign our petition to show your support for gun safety and to keep Berkeley children safe. Your signature will show the Berkeley City Council that this ordinance has community support.

The grind is exhausting but I am still here pushing for this change. We are nearing the five hundred mark and hitting that threshold right now would send a clear signal to the council. Please get this in front of anyone who has not seen it yet.

In Berkeley, Mr. Mayor and Councilmembers, please consider this well-thought ordinance to help safe-guard our community. Thank you.
Making sure kids stay safe should be our #1 priority. Thank you BHS students for putting together this common sense petition.
This only makes sense, and for safety's sake seems obvious. The cost is minimal compared to the lives that could be lost or damaged by having unfettered access to a gun.
As a Berkeley resident (Regal Road) and a father of a BHS graduate, I cannot stress enough the importance of our children living and going to school in a safe environment. This ordinance will help make our community safer.
Gun safety and the lives of our kids & youth WINS over gun "rights" ALL DAY LONG. Go Yellow Jackets!!!!! (Class of '84!)

I support this important ordinance. A locked gun is harder to steal or take to use for intentional or accidental violence.
