To Whom It May Concern,

Warm greetings.

We are a group of concerned parents from Berkeley School Inc., and we are writing in the spirit of partnership and mutual care for the well-being and development of our children.

We deeply value the education and experiences our children are receiving at Berkeley, and we appreciate the efforts of the administration and faculty in nurturing their growth. At the same time, there are a few matters we would like to bring to your attention in the hope of opening a constructive dialogue.

  1. Intramurals Duration and Focus
We have observed that the Intramurals span two full weeks, which seems to significantly reduce classroom instruction time. We would like to better understand the rationale behind this duration. Additionally, it appears that a considerable portion of this time is devoted to field demonstration dance practices, with limited actual sports participation. We wonder if there might be a way to strike a better balance between promoting physical activity and preserving valuable academic time or maybe even adjusting the schedule to optimize student benefit.
  2. MSE Program Content and Structure
We also have some concerns regarding the year-long MSE program. It seems that students are focused primarily on learning a single song for the end-of-year recital, and much of the theory covered appears to be repetitive from previous years. The group practice format also makes it difficult for students to hear themselves and receive individualized feedback. When not actively practicing, students often spend long periods waiting, which may not be the most productive use of their time. Given that this is a required and paid program, we would appreciate more insight into its structure and goals, and whether there are opportunities for enrichment or improvement. We would also like to suggest that the MSE program be made optional and other programs be offered instead in order to give the students more options for extra curricular subjects that suit their interests and skills.
  3. Parent Involvement and PTA
Lastly, we would like to express our interest in becoming more actively involved in school matters through a formal Parent-Teacher Association. We believe that creating a PTA could foster stronger collaboration and communication between parents and the school, allowing us to work together more effectively on issues that impact our children.

We share a common goal of providing the best possible learning environment for our children, and we hope this message is received in the spirit of partnership. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to meet or correspond further on these topics at your convenience.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.
