Hey Lauren thank you for your comment. However, for that to be the reason seems a little unnecessary. There is going to be sweat regardless of shirt or not. Being hot in the gym because your wearing a shirt is one of the reason for the sweat! Eliminating the shirts can possibly eliminate the additional heat that it's causing which in return lessens the sweat. To me that's a very lazy alternative to keeping our gym cleans and healthy. People swear regardless.

Just let them wear whatever they choose to. It's 2015 not 1915.

Ladies, although I completely respect what you are trying to accomplish, I feel the need to explain something you and others have over looked. I work in the fitness center, and just talked to the athletic directors about this very issue yesterday. I asked why we weren't allowed, because I've had to send girls out of the gym for not having a shirt. The reason is for sanitation purposes only!! According to my bosses, we do not have the means for our fitness center and recreation staff to clean up what would be a much messier and unsanitary gym from all the sweat that would occur if we didn't wear shirts.
Bunnies are allowed to wear just a sports bra every where else on campus. Just not within the HCC

I have no idea. I've asked several men and they have no idea either. But this is also a problem. Men don't have to question because it most likely is never brought up. Which means it may not a problem in their community. If it is a rule on SJU that men are supposed to wear shirts, I know for a fact it is not enforced. If you're in the gym and your wearing work-out attire what is the problem? I thank you for that question as these are the things we need to be asking ourselves and our community.

I completely agree that women should not be sexualized for the body type they were born with...... But I'm going to be devil's advocate and also ask a question that I honestly don't know the answer to. Are boys allowed to go shirtless in the gym? From where I see it, women's bodies should not be sexualized, but if we are simply looking for equal rights for the women and men at CSBSJU, then that should also be taken into consideration

Working out isn't meant to be sexy, it's meant to promote health. It also results in being very warm and sweaty. Sports bras are no different than bikinis, it doesn't need to be such a big deal.

I agree with this petition's statement. The women of the College of Saint Benedict have the right to choose the attire that makes them feel most comfortable working out at the gym.

These kinds of rules are antiquated and have no place in day and age.

I agree with the comments of the individual who wrote this petition. I believe it is not right, especially when one becomes really hot when working out, that they can not take of their shirt and just have their sports bra on.

Women should not have to cover themselves becasue of men, especially if men are not around. It's time to get rid of this stigma where girl's should be ashamed of their bodies.
