“ Benn Norman Phillip Allsop (Born November 13, 1987) grew up with his parents and two sisters, living the country life deep down in the hills of the hunter valley. Being the oddball, Benn was the creative/artistic one of the family, though it wasn't until his performance in the musical adaption of the play 'Taming of the Shrew' where shocked audiences including his parents, coming out from behind a shower curtain in nothing but a brightly flowered towel to sing 'Splish Splash'. Benn knew this was his passion from this moment on. Somewhere around the time, he landed a role as an extra on the mini-series 'Marking Time' where he rubbed shoulders with such names as Abbie Cornish, Abe Forsythe, Gyton Grantly and Boyana Novakovic. He started out with playing musical instruments like the clarinet, bass clarinet, tuba. Then at the age of 15 he discovered the musical ways of Ben Folds, and fell in love with the Piano and has been playing ever since. He ended up recording a song with Grant Walmsley from 'The Screaming Jets'. Having graduated from the Hunter School of the Performing Arts, he moved on to earn his Papers in Music Theatre while keeping up with his music endeavors and scoring some work at a Newcastlel based Theatre Restaurant 'The Kavon'. You can see him most weekends thrilling and chilling audiences as 'The Joker'. Being in the music theatre scene, Benn was nominated for a CONDA award (City Of Newcastle Drama Awards) for his Role in the Childrens Show 'Billy & the Garbage Monsters' as 'Reg Motörhead', a garbage monster made of old car-parts. Since then Benn has been more focused on film and television, continuously auditioning for student films, web projects, commercials, and well just about any opportunity that's on the table. Most recently Benn was selected to host the Reality TV Show 'iDance Machine TV' in Las Vegas. During his time in the US, he starred as the host for two more commercials for "iDMTV", as well as making all the right connections. Benn now has Management in LA. Today he currently is back in Australia... For how long? Who knows.”

The people running this scholarship clearly did not expect this kind of outcry. They can try to ignore Benn Allsop but they cannot ignore the momentum building behind this campaign.
