Joseph W. Benkert Memorial Airport
We, the undersigned, call upon the City of Norwood to rename the Norwood Memorial Airport to the “Joseph W. Benkert Memorial Airport”.
Joe Benkert had a long history in general aviation. He was a pilot with over 19,000 hours of military, airline and corporate flight experience. He was also a well respected, national aviation authority and a true aviation teacher. He authored the college level text book 'Introduction to Aviation Science', and authored countless other aviation articles in national and local publications. For many years he owned Aviation Career Institutes where he taught and trained professional pilots and air traffic control specialists. No words can fully describe Joe’s contribution to general aviation and the Norwood Airport. Joe Benkert also contributed to the local economy by operating for many years “The Pilot Shop" - the largest retail pilot shop in the U.S. known world-wide by aviation enthusiasts and pilots alike.
No words can fully describe Joe’s contribution to general aviation. His life long legacy and contribution to the Norwood Airport is undisputed.
