Do you think Benbrook should do the annual Christmas Fireworks and tree lighting?
One of the few events Benbrook residents not only look forward to, but could be planned safely in regards to social distancing, was our amazing Benbrook Tree Lighting Fireworks Extravaganza. However, our mayor, Jerry Dittrich has made the dictating decision to cancel the beloved event. In all these years, travels, and experience, Benbrook's fireworks show has been nothing short of breathtaking.
Include the fact we can walk up the trails beside Winscott, sit on a blanket, and not even come within 6 feet of anyone, this event could be easily planned in order to keep all of us safe, and celebrate SOMETHING this year. Please take the time to vote on your opinion. I would LOVE to take the initiative to begin a petition advocating for the citizens to have the ability to voice OUR opinion. The mayor should speak for his entire community, and he has no idea how we feel.
There are many ways to take precautions, it just takes all of us being personally accountable and responsible.
Believe me, I am the first argue for any kind of public gathering. I have been stuck in my home since March with two kids under five. My husband, my father, my brother, and my two sister-in-laws, are all first responders dealing with Covid-19. There are ways to do something like this responsibly, especially with such a large area. We quite literally stand across the street from the YMCA on the Trinity trails and do not come into contact with anyone.

I understand safety, but after the year its been, the people need a reason to come together, even distanced, and experience joy, hope, and community. If I can safely cut/ color hair in the salon, we can safely enjoy our towns OUTDOOR Christmas celebration.
We can all be responsible and self distance ourselves and still enjoy ourselves with our families.
We want our Christmas lighting and fireworks
Isn't all of this planned as outdoor activities? Is Benbrook infested with illness?
We can do this safely.
