This petition has been created in order to help Cactus Combat Match League and 3-Gun Nation Arizona to inform the Arizona Game and Fish Department about the safe practice of shooting a wide field of fire during normal match settings:
By signing this petition, you agree that you are a competitive shooter, match director, or range safety officer, and you have NEVER witnessed a safety issue or injury while observing or participating in a practical shooting match with a wide field of fire due to impacts into side berms, including but not limited too: 3-Gun, USPSA, IPSC, etc.
By signing this petition, you agree that shooting a wide field of fire properly and safely is necessary to host quality, large scale, competitive shooting matches.
By signing this petition you also agree that you have participated in at least one practical shooting event when a large field of fire (180 degrees) was used.
To this day, Ben Avery remains as one of the ONLY Arizona gun ranges, restricted from shooting a wide field of fire.

I have been shooting competitively at Ben Avery, Rio Salado and Phoenix Rod and Gun for over 10 years and have never whitnessed unsafe practices resulting from wide range of fire.
I've shot over 150 practical, "wide field" matches in both bays and in open terrain in the past 4 years at 25 different shooting clubs in 14 different states all across the country.
Ben Avery is the only range I've ever shot at that does not allow rounds to hit the side burm. It effects the quality of the matches and the attendance suffers because of it. Many ranges have shorter burns and do not have problems with shooting a full 180 degrees.
180 degree course of fire and side impact areas on flat berm ranges is commonplace. I shoot 25 major events per year as a professional action shooter and have never witnessed an accident from this practice. In most cases it is much safer than trying to run a course of fire directly away from a fixed firing line.
I am a USPSA Range Officer as well as a 3-gun competitor and 180 degree shooting has never caused a legitimate safety issue in my experience. RSO's that are used to a standard firing line, hot/cold style range are understandably taken aback by this kind of thing, but it's been done safely in this country and others for at least thirty years.
Do it
I've shot dozens of these types of events. Safety is the #1 priority of everyone including the participants.

As a Police firearms instructor, RangeMaster and sponsored competition shooter I've never witnessed a safety issue or injury while observing or participating in a practical shooting match with a wide field of fire, including but not limited too: 3-Gun, USPSA, IPSC, etc.
