Belvedere Jacket Reforms
As students of Belvedere College, we are not currently permitted to wear a coat or jacket of our choosing to and from school. If caught wearing one, it is confiscated. Additionally, we are not permitted to enter the school with a non-conforming coat in our possession, regardless as to whether it is being worn or not. Therefore, the signitaries of this petition propose that; 1) Students be permitted to wear a coat of their choosing to and from school 2) Students be permitted to enter the college with said coat in their possession, and place it in a locker or other area for safekeeping whilst lessons are in progress 3) No such coat shall be confiscated whilst in the possession of a student, unless it is being worn within school hours on the premises of the College We do not propose that students be allowed to wear improper uniform whilst in school, nor do we propose that the Belvedere jacket be made redundant. We recognise that within school hours in the College, should one want to wear a jacket, they must wear the approved one. However, it is unfair that students be expected to wear the jacket outside of school hours on their commute to and from school, and that they must either choose the often uncomfortable school jacket or to go without should it be a hinderance. Therefore, we propose that this simple change be allowed in the interest of facilitating student travel and comfort throughout the year. --------- When signing the petition, please include your full name and class, and an email if you wish.
