For years FSU's annual homecoming event Pow Wow has featured the same style of performances (pop dance and music groups). The FSU Belly Dancers have been denied a spot at Pow Wow for the past four years. They are a renowned belly dance troupe that has consistently performed at major events including Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, and even placed at competitive events such as Spear It Night and Entertainment for Change. Not only would they bring a unique and exciting dynamic to a show that time and time again features similar acts, but also the community would benefit from the cultural diversity that the belly dancers bring. The student body has asked to see The FSU Belly Dancers perform at Pow Wow for years, and this petition serves to prove that there is a demand.

EDIT: For those wondering the reason given this year, we were told "there are a limited number of spots for large dance companies". However, we are not a company, we are a student organization, and there are only 7 performers. It is unfair to have us compete for a spot against actual large dance companies.

Parent of 3 Alumni, 2 current students and 1 former Member of the belly dancers, LET THEM DANCE!
The Belly Dancers at Florida State have a history or providing empowerment and cultural diversity to FSU and it's student events. As an FSU alumn, I am very disappointed to hear they have been denied from participation. I believe they they would bring variety as well as entertainment and school spirit to this event.
I was a part of the FSU Belly Dancer the year we auditioned and had the privilege to perform for Pow Wow! Please give the girls a chance to do it once more, everyone loved us!
I can't see why these girls are being denied for years after previously performing in PowWow and receiving an undeniably positive reaction to it. PowWow is a perfect place to bring awareness to the group and what they stand for, and they deserve to be up on that stage just as much as Seminole Dance Force or the Thetas would...
They bring so much diversity to the table, which is a big part of what FSU stands for, diversity and inclusion. Combining their skill level (which is absolutely amazing) along with their efforts to promote body positivity makes them a unique part of this campus. Would love to see them at Pow Wow.
I miss you guys, hope you get into homecoming Pow Wow. You're dances are so amazing.
I think it's cool that our school even allows student organizations to perform at a once a year pep rally. The cheerleaders and golden girls are part of our school's spirit traditions so they are a necessity to a Pep Rally. The comedian lineup are the most diverse ever so you can tell this student run organization is trying hard to cultivate diversity.

Hi Victoria, thank you for your response. The only time The FSU Belly Dancers have ever performed in Pow Wow was in 2013. Since then our troupe has improved and our following/demand has grown. Have you seen the line up of the past Pow Wow's or do you know who made it this year? Many of the same organizations are seen repeatedly (some are not even campus organizations). We are not claiming to be the only diverse organization on campus, but regardless, there is a change we are looking to catalyze and we are not the only people who agree that it needs to happen.
