I started 3 years ago with no dance history. Another lady in our troupe started at the same time at the age of 72. We are different shapes and sizes and ages. And we love each other. We are sisters.

For years I have been around belly dancers of various body types and genders. I can’t imagine anyone trying to bar anyone from the art form for such reasons.

Body shamers are not welcome in our community. Everyone is different & beautiful, that is what makes our dance form so special. There is so much power in having so many shapes, sizes, genders, ethnicities, & skin colors all share the stage together. We are surrounded by so much negativity & irrational judgement in our everyday society, it is more important than ever to keep our dance rooted in love & positive energy.

When I am tempted to judge women I don't know, I ask myself if I would feel the same if she were one of my dance sisters. The love and acceptance, the skill and disciplone I have gained from this art form has changed my life.

I don't use the "B" word, but dance is FOR EVERYONE. Misty Copeland was told she wasn't right for ballet. So was Rudolph Nureyev.

Middle Eastern| Oriental dance what ever you want to call is for every one, every shape and has been done with joy and respect in sharing it as a gift to a bride and dancing together to bring happiness and healing. It is NOT about loosing weight and not respecting women. My favorite dancers are older and nicely rounded. We dance with our heart not with the intention to become a sexual object!
