This horrible idea seems to surface every few years. We have lived on BMB for 30 years. We do not want the inane changes proposed. There is not one resident on or near the Boulevard who thinks these proposed changes are a good idea. The proposal cannot be tweaked. Simply no.
It may be time for a recall vote on our Commissioners.

It is interesting that the City of Belle Meade actually signed this petition presumably to be able to leave the comment below. In the past few days the actual information published on the City website has changed significantly. Previously the Boulevard plan could only be found buried in the Capitol Projects tab at the bottom of the page. I actually called the City to find it on the website because I couldn’t previously. Now it has moved to the front page after this petition started as if it has always been there. This doesn’t feel right. Illustrations have been deleted and information has been added. What their comment below left out is that there is a Board of Commissioners meeting TODAY at 4:00 at City Hall which anyone can attend. I hope all concerned people will attend this Open meeting

As stated so well in the petition, Belle Meade has an abundance of walking/jogging/biking options - namely the Warner Parks. I see no need for replacing beautiful green space with concrete.
I live in Belle Meade Highlands, and our non-sidewalked, narrow neighborhood streets are overwhelmed with traffic from Cheekwood guests. Per the recent traffic findings from the Kimley-Horn Belle Meade Highlands Design and Mobility Study, approximately 80% of the traffic in our neighborhood is traffic from Cheekwood guests. And 61% of the traffic into Cheekwood originates from Belle Meade streets - primarily Belle Meade Blvd!
I assume the Belle Meade residents, like your BMH neighbors, want Cheekwood traffic off our neighborhood streets. Then please urge your commissioners to join our fight to have Cheekwood's entrance moved to Highway 100, thus removing their 400,000+ annual guests from driving through our neighborhoods. Our BMH Working Group has been trying to get the Belle Meade Commissioners to join our cause for at least 6 months - to no avail. We want your support, which would help with traffic calming in Belle Meade.
We all want less traffic in our great neighborhoods. And if you reduce traffic significantly by removing the Cheekwood traffic, there should be no need for these proposed sidewalks on BM Blvd.

If the city implements these changes, they will change what has been created for all the residents. A beautiful, peaceful boulevard that exemplifies the city.

There is an incredible green space in the park for all sorts of exercise at the end of Belle Meade Blvd. To re-build the blvd. For another exercise space, to me. Is overkill and negating the space that is readily available in the park.

RE: Belle Meade Boulevard Beautification and Pedestrian Safety Project
Dear Residents:
We are excited to again share information about the Belle Meade Boulevard Beautification and Pedestrian Safety Project. This plan is the result of more than five years of study and community engagement. Our goal is to address dangerous pedestrian conditions while enhancing the beauty of Belle Meade Boulevard.
Beautification is a primary focus as we move forward with this plan. We are committed to maintaining the beautiful park-like setting of the median that is the hallmark of our City. The goal is to protect residents who use the Boulevard for walking and running in response to the dramatic increase in traffic. We have developed a plan that requires the least amount of change, is the most cost effective and is the least disruptive to the look and feel of the thoroughfare.
This plan does NOT include:
× reflective paint or reflectors of any kind
× traffic delineators of any kind
× removal of existing trees
× any significant narrowing of traffic lanes
× blinking lights at crosswalks
× additional signage of any kind
× a designated lane for bikers
× destroying the beauty of Belle Meade Boulevard or its medians
× changes to the outer roadway design, driveways, mailboxes, or landscaping
This plan DOES include:
widening the existing walking space to 60 inches
adequate space to safely walk/run side-by-side, with dogs or strollers
increasing and improving the landscaping and plantings in each median in collaboration with the Ceres Belle Meade Beautification Committee
consistent residential street lane widths of 9 feet
maintaining the historical street design with two driving lanes for adequate flow of traffic
an attractive and minimally invasive safety buffer between the left driving land and the pedestrian walkway, NOT TO EXCEED SIX INCHES IN HEIGHT.
30% reduction of signs on the Boulevard
reduction of ineffective crosswa

I live on the Blvd and am strongly opposed. This is a colossal waste of money and it creates more problems than it solves. Will be voting out all officials that support this monstrosity.
