Before/After school care for PreSchool through Elementary School

I agree. I was just talking to 2 other moms about this issue this morning. We were thinking of attending a school committee meeting. I also have a middle school son and am not crazy about the drop in center. It's the only option for this age. They have to walk there and some kids walk downtown and then go to the center. I offered to pay an extra fee for a pick up service b/c they have a van but they claimed staffing issues prevents them from doing this. They made it clear that they are not a child care center. It's difficult to go to work everyday and worry about your children's safety.
On another note, my thrid grader is at the Bres but I could only get him 2 days/week. It's unbeleivable that there's isn't more programs offered when there is such a need. Thank you for organizing this and hopefully our efforts will be heard.

I'm interested in after school care and will need it in 2013+ when my 1st child enters kindegarten. Thanks for putting this together - you are absolutely right, it's so extremely challenging to balance it all. Affordable before & after school care is a neccessity within the community.

We cannot afford for me to quit my job right now just so that my son can be dropped off and picked up at school and we are in desperate need of affordable before and after school care.

After school childcare is desperately needed in Newburyport! The singular program, run by the Y, is experiencing a wait list of over a year, and is quite expensive for working parents. My school-aged children are currently being bused to Salisbury because that was the only option available to us.

Newburyport really needs to step up. Working parents are falling through the cracks here.
