We the students and faculty of Florida International University (Modesto Maidique Campus) have come to the conclusion that the current art department is being outrageously misrepresented in comparison to the rest of the campus and areas of study that are offered here at Florida International University. As non art majors enjoy their education in newly refurbished buildings, art students pay the same prices for our education and essentially go to school in poorly kept and considerably lower quality warehouses located in the depths of the back of the school. In this petition we would like to propose a solution that would not only beautify the current conditions for art students, but raise awareness of the art program and how influential and inspiring art and imagery can be to the masses. With this petition we the students and faculty would like an official clearance from the heads of Florida International University to setup and create a mural project that would cover the walls of warehouse buildings w-1 through w-10. In understanding that Florida International University has a particular standard and image to uphold, we as artists agree that the content of the walls have to be appropriate and able fit in a higher educational setting, leaving out any content that may be offensive or can endanger students and faculty in any way. In agreeing to sign this clearance, Florida International University will undoubtedly benefit from this project, as well as beautify and change an ongoing situation which has been clearly neglected.
