Bathrooms At Harbor Highlands Park Will Attract Crime & Homeless Encampments

Please sign our Harbor Highlands community Homeowner & Resident petition to stop LA City Council from constructing a Bathroom at the park along Gatun Street. This bathroom construction will begin in two months unless our community can stand up and stop this. Since this park is poorly lit at night, not patrolled and never locked, bathrooms will attract homeless encampments, drug users, drug dealers, prostitution, graffiti, and gang activity. Our Harbor Highlands gated community pool bathroom has already been broken into on several occassions, tagged with graffiti, locks broken, homeless spending the night, etc...and this has happened behind our two locked gates. Imagine what will happen at this park, with no lights and no locked gates. The crime will drop our property values and this park will become an unsafe place for our children. The growth of this petition has reached a level that necessitates an immediate formal briefing with the local council office. I am currently finalizing the presentation materials to ensure our specific concerns regarding park security are addressed during our upcoming meeting with the planning committee.

I live in the taper area and I have a business at Worldport business Center. Homeless are constantly breaking into businesses and using the complex for housing. A bathroom at the park will make it worse.
My opinion is that in light of changed conditions in the community (massive increase in "homeless", minimal police patrol coverage, and essentially no Park and Rec coverage) that it is no longer appropriate to have bathroom in HH park.
There are resources for individuals who are homeless but the type of homeless we are dealing with in San Pedro do not want help and are choosing to live on the streets. Our families and children should not have to be exposed to things at a park. Putting these bathrooms in will be a huge mistake and there will not be anyone there to enforce any rules nor maintain it the way it's supposed to be. This is a disgrace.
Please do not install a public bathroom at harbor highland park. I have two small children and live across from the park. I fear there will be increased crime and attract drug addicts and other potentially dangerous folks to the neighborhood. Thank you.
I am a homeowner in the Harbor Highlands community; I DO NOT want bathrooms installed at the Harbor Highlands Park across the street from our gated neighborhood. We already have a problem with the homeless jumping our gate and using our locked pool bathroom and going through our garbage every week collecting our recyclables.

This small neighborhood park was built in the early 70s without bathrooms because it was never meant to be used by large groups/parties. It was built using funds received from taxes paid by the neighbors in the Taper area.
