Bath Spa University - Wednesday Afternoons

At Bath Spa University we are one of the only institutions in the country that do not give students and lecturers Wednesday afternoons free on their timetables. This creates a number of problems. Students are now paying £9,000 a year to come to come here, yet many can not join the society or sports team that they would like to because their timetable does not permit them to. It would also give students a chance to come and support the sports teams, meet others and socialise - this will help to build a real community feel around campus. Having an afternoon universally free in the week also gives students and lecturers a time -when everyone is free- to meet and discuss projects or any sort of group work on a weekly basis. It also gives a free window for students to arrange work placements or volunteering opportunities - both of which look great on a CV and improve our job prospects for when we graduate. Many of us have very busy timetables, and need an afternoon free to work on coursework and/or revise.
We are paying more than enough to be here. It is time for us to collectively initiate the change.
