Batalá Durham has been rehearsing in Durham Central Park for the past 2 summers and only recently run into issues with a few neighbors in the new developments across the street. We have been working with Durham Central Park Inc (who manages the park and it's activities), the police, and talking to the media to inform the public of the issues that we have been having. While we believe we are using the park legally and in compliance with the noise ordinances in Durham, the police have stopped our rehearsals when a neighbor has complained. We are trying to gather signatures from the community who are interested in supporting our cause and believe that we should have the right to continue using the park to practice our music. We'd like to hear from people who want to keep Durham a vibrant community that embraces the arts and music so we can demonstrate that a small minority of new residents in the community shouldn't be the only people dictating what activities should be allowed in the public spaces.
