I support the new campus for the BASIS Scottsdale! I'm concerned that without this new campus, BASIS scottsdale may be forced to move out side of the Scottsdale.

The local residents are going to complain no matter what ultimately ends up there. Can you imagine if an apartment complex wants to build there or how about a Jiffy Lube. A new school building is needed and they have found the perfect place please allow them to build and better the Scottsdale community.

I am writing you, not only as concerned Scottsdale resident, but as a parent of a BASIS Scottsdale student and a BASIS Scottsdale teacher. I have taught mathematics for fifteen years at University of California, Irvine, The Arkansas School of Mathematics Sciences and the Arts and Alhambra College Preparatory. I can tell you that, without question, BASIS Scottsdale is the best school at which I have taught. Despite limitations in the quantity of classrooms, federal funding and classroom size, the students and teachers overcome these obstacles to create a culture that fosters learning and collaboration. I have returned from taking 5 BASIS Scottsdale seniors interested in pursuing a career in mathematics to the largest mathematics conference in the world (the AMS/MAA Joint Conference in Seattle) where I was happy to see alumni from BASIS Scottsdale, Joey Chimocowksi and Rachel Nahon, speaking at seminars over their work on mathematical modeling of cyclones and detection of color edges in light spectra, respectively. My daughter is one of many juniors at BASIS Scottsdale who just found out that her PSAT score was in the top 1% percentile in the U.S. This achievement would have been much more difficult for her at any other school. The City should be proud of being home to such an outstanding school and should do whatever it can to help BASIS Scottsdale find a facility that is more appropriate to educating middle school and high school students. Given our states reputation for dismissing education, helping BASIS Scottsdale would sent a strong message that, at least, Scottsdale is pro-education. Every year that BASIS Scottsdale is ranked in the top 5 in the country, more parents from around the country call our school to put their students in the waiting list. This, of course, helps Scottsdale economically, as we are attracting skilled and intellectual parents who value education, as well as bringing attention to the companies for which they work. I do not see any problem with living close to the BASSIS school since I have experience owning a home close to another BASSIS location on 32nd Str and Cactus.We need more schools with high education level!
