I met Barry in 1999 when I was fortunate enough to meet all the members of a program inside of Monroe Correctional Complex. I was startled to learn of his crime and incarceration at the age of 13. I can attest to the adult that I met as one that seemed as far away from that crime as one could imagine. Barry spoke openly about the profound pain his crime caused to the family of his victim, his sorrow about being the cause, and the changes he made to himself as part of his life in prison. He educated students, parents, youth, teachers, and so many people who were unaware of not only his story, but the story of crime, race, imprisonment, and redemption. The time has more than come to make the necessary changes to a system that is faulty.

The Judicial system in America is all about business. 2.2 million Americans are locked up. My husband just sentenced to 20 years in prison over 141 thousand dollars owed to investors. My husband rightful heir to 95% water stock, his case was Opunui water company, the Judge who sentenced him owns stocks in water transportation with Alexander and Baldwin. Where is the Justice when the Judges can not even uphold their own oaths and legal boundaries.

As I share the same name and age with this man, its unbelievable that he would have to spend that much time in prison from such a young age. Like another commenter has said, there are adults in prison with less time for the same thing or worse. A 13 year old child does not deserve life in prison. I just read on another site that he will be set free next year. Thank God!

NOW let Barry live in peace on the outside. This darn system will only give 15-20 yrs to adults for murder, BUT they sentenced a 13 yr old to life.
He NEVER should have been sentenced in that manner. NEVER!!!

Please reduce the sentence for Barry. It is simply wrong to sentence a 13 year old to life in prison without parole.

I remember working at Remann Hall years ago when Barry and Mike were there, Barry was down the first hall first door on your right, Mike was down another separated hall from everyone. I remember how young and innocent Barry was. I also recall sitting all night outside Mikes cell on suicide watch while he wrote poems, I also recall female visitors looking for the attention from their relationship with Mike. Barry on the other hand appeared to have a strong family support, He had a tv in his small bathroom size cell where others did not. I remember asking why and was told he had been there a while followed by a brief explanation.I was in shock. It seemed the talk was that he was manipulated by the older rebel friend Mike.There were reasons why he (Mike) was in a cell down a hall by himself, I personally believe Barry got caught up in a buddy relationship with an older cool friend that gave him the attention, there is nothing in Barrys past to simply say he was violent. Mike? A lot, Take the facts into consideration. If anyone could have been back then you would understand. Barry was so innocent. so quiet. so humble. Mike? was playing a young female guard. He had young girls to visit. Remorse?.He was still playing his game. i saw the news the other night that brought this to my attention. I was so young when I was there as a guard. I've raised a family of 4 children since then. I'm sorry to hear Barry is still there, I send my prayers

It is disgusting he has received life! A 13 year old boy. Are you crazy to even try and stop the poor boys appeal. It is terrible what has happened to the victim's, but he is 13!!! Is it because he is BLACK!!! Oh no sorry we are not aloud to say that because it is the race card. There was only slavery for 300 years! This young 13 year old human made a BIG mistake if he used the weapon or not he is 13!!!! No he should not stay in jail for life. FIRST OFFENCE!!! GET HIM OUT NOW!!! give him a new identity and let him live. He was 13 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Complete injustice to a then 13 year old child. He has more then served his time and demonstrates he has made positive, reponsible and mature decisions and shows remorse for any part in the crime.
