I am creating this petition in order to have a new skatepark built preferably in the south end of Barrie. There is a huge amount of kids who live in the south end and are not able to ride the skatepark downtown since it is too far for them to ride to. The bmx, scooter and skateboard scenes are great for kids to get into. It gets the kids out of the house and gets them active. It is also a great way for kids to find a group of friends. With Barrie’s quickly growing population, there are many new people moving into the city that are skateboarders, bmxers and scooter riders and it is difficult for them to find friends because people are not riding the skateparks often. A new skatepark would make the riding scene greater and people moving into Barrie can easily make new friends and enjoy their new city. People will have something fun to do to pass time and the drug use of youths will be greatly reduced. A new skatepark in Barrie would also bring a lot of traffic to Barrie since people from other city’s/towns will come ride the skatepark. Barrie has a lot of scooter riders, skateboard riders and bmx riders who ride “street” which is riding structures around the city’s such as ; handrails, ledges and stairways. This is a liability for the business owners and often vandalizes their properties. If Barrie had a new skatepark, the amount of “street” riders would be greatly reduced. Barrie would benefit from a new skatepark in so many different ways. I am planning on bringing his petition to the city of Barrie when it achieves its goal of supporters.
