Reported by The Southern Star, 13th June:
"BANTRY Hospital will not close, but will fundamentally change the medical services it provides to the community and the way in which the services are provided, Professor John Higgins said this week."
When closed, this petition will be presented to the HSE and other authorities who are making the decision to downgrade Bantry Hospital removing 24 hour acute care services and sending patients to Cork City for care.

I really never thought this would gain this much steam but here we are and it is honestly overwhelming to see so many people who care about Bantry Hospital as much as I do. It keeps hitting me that people actually feel this strongly about keeping those acute services local because I was worried I was shouting into the void when I started this whole thing.

CUH is at least 90 minutes from Baltimore, plus however long it takes to get a ferry from Sherkin Island. People living at Castletownbere can add another 90 minutes. Bantry A & E is vitally necessary for the people of West Cork.

LEAVE OUR HOSPITAL ALONE. Its a joke thinking people can just drive all the way to the city when they are sick. We need local care now.

Living in Beara means we rely on Bantry. Trying to get to Cork in an emergency is just not possible. The roads are bad enough without adding another hour to the journey.

The HSE has no idea what its like down here. If they close the 24 hour unit lives will be lost in the back of ambulances. Disgraceful.
