Hip-hop has arguably been the best genre of music in the past two decades. As hip-hop maintains its title, a lot has changed about the genre, such as the lyrics.
When hip-hop was getting started, it had music based prevalently on African American culture. Artists such as Tupac, Biggie Smalls, and Eazy-E often rapped about the struggles of growing up in a racialized environment and the work they put in to get where they are today.
Hip-hop today has different types of lyrics. All rappers use the same sounds, same beat styles, and most rappers today mumble or use Autotune. Rappers from today’s generation sing typically about girls, money, and cars they have. Some even sing about how they do drugs, drink alcohol, and party which sets a bad example for some listeners. Some of these rappers today did not have it as hard as rappers back in the old days. Also, Hip-hop artists now are racially diverse, so African American culture is not necessarily found in music today.
People of this generation are used to listening to trap music which is the most played genre on the radio. These same fans reject old school Hip-Hop as a part of the music genre. There are even rappers who know nothing about the most influential Hip-Hop artists.

Rap music is horrible, i myself am a victim of rap music i grew up in the ghetto of South Sacramento so i always heard it but i loved it so much that i said f school and sports i wanna be like lil wayne and jay-z so me and almost everyone in my high school all dropped out of school to be rappers. I unfortunately realized that these rappers i looked up to made me throw my whole life away and not only me all those people that did the same as me, and now i see it with all these kids these days. Can you also bring back the music that i listen to from 1997 to 2005? KSI is doing garage music like craig david and that genre has been big from 1997 to 2005. eurodance and europop was also big in those years as well, from artists like vengaboys to basshunter it has been very popular. we need artists that use the genre in pop like Ariana grande, Katy perry, Ed Sheeran, Justin bieber and more to use the pop style in the 90s in the style of Backstreet Boys. i want to bring music back the way it was
