The present smoking bans in NYC for smoking are ineffective and a means of economic extortion. The ban is claiming to be for health reasons. The dangers of smoking to oneself and the "second-hand" effect. For these reasons it seems that NYC has found it appropriate to financially burden smokers with incredibly high taxation on cigarettes. If the issue was in fact health, NYC would simple ban the dangerous product itself. Instead, NYC wants to profit and make smokers into there personal cash cow. For this reason cigarettes themselves ought to be banned. Let us not fund the state through our consumerism. The taxes on cigarettes don't go to the smokers, it goes to anti-smoking legislation that allows the further extortion of the smoking consumer.
