Ban the Box is a nationwide effort to remove the question about past criminal convictions from initial job applications. These measures allow employers full discretion about who they hire, while allowing individuals with criminal convictions to make their case rather than being dismissed out of hand

Banning the Box is good for individuals, businesses, families and communities. It offers individuals an opportunities for second chances which helps keep our streets safer by reducing recidivism. Banning the box also gives employers access to talented and ambitious employees who in the past have been over looked.

Pittsburgh City Council is currently considering such a measure. Please sign this petition urging your city council member to support banning the box in Pittsburgh.

THE PETITION:

Dear City Council Members;

We the undersigned support and request Pittsburgh City Council to introduce and pass new "Ban the Box" legislation. This legislation removes the question "have you ever been convicted of a crime" off initial job applications. This "box" is discriminatory and prevents people with past criminal records from acquiring equal employment opportunities to provide for their families and become self-sufficient, taxpaying citizens of our communities, city and nation.

This is good for business, good for communities and good for families.
